As the fashion elite descended upon the four great style metropoles – New York, Paris, Milan and London – designers scurried to make the final tweaks to their fall collections. As you will see in our bi-annual trend round-up, no ruffle was left un-coiffed, and flares made a huge comeback.
Season by season, we find that jewelry trends consistently follow those of fashion. But this year, Roberto Coin is ahead of the game with collections like Carnaby Street and Nabucco. Across all runways, we see the 1970s having a major revival. Bohemian ruffles, flared pants and off-the-shoulder silhouettes are all having a moment. The clashing of prints and bold color are also dominating fashion houses from New York to Milan.
What brings about this ‘haute hippie’ resurgence? Perhaps it is because fashion truly is cyclical. We also believe that pop culture plays an important role in influencing fashion trends. For example, HBO’s new hit Scorsese-series, Vinyl, places 70’s rocker chic under an edgy, yet romanticized lens. This begs the question: maybe, we as a people, are always nostalgic for the days of ‘yore. For the last several years, AMC’s Mad Men produced a slew of mod 60’s fashions. So it’s only fitting that we retire the ‘Twiggy’ and bring on the ‘Bianca Jagger’.
